BitBox 10.2024 Lugano Update: Sending to Silent Payments & MiniTapscript
The BitBox Lugano update for BitBox02 hardware signer v9.21 and BitBox app v4.45 enables payments to Silent Payment addresses and implements MiniTapscript.
- "We’re excited to announce that the BitBox02 is now the first hardware wallet to support sending to silent payment addresses," announced the company.
- This means that BitBox02 users can now send bitcoin to the same Silent Payment address multiple times, without the sender losing privacy and eliminating the need to constantly generate new addresses.

- This update also introduces MiniTapscript, merging Taproot's privacy and efficiency with Miniscript's capabilities.
"It’s perfect for creating more complex wallet setups like inheritance planning, while keeping transactions smaller and more private," said the firm.
- Users will soon be able to use BitBox02 with wallets like Liana, once a software update enabling MiniTapscript is released in a few weeks, according to the blog post.
What's new (BitBox02 firmware v9.21.0; bitcoin-only)
- Added support for sending to silent payment (BIP-352) addresses. Users can simply enter a silent payment address when preparing a new transaction in the BitBoxApp and verify the details on their BitBox02.
"This introduces new risks, which we mitigate by enabling the BitBoxApp to independently verify a silent payment was created correctly by the BitBox02. Similar to the anti-klepto protocol, this ensures the hardware wallet cannot misbehave, making sending to a silent payment address just as secure as any other transaction," said the developers.
- Added support for Taproot wallet policies and Miniscript on Taproot (MiniTapscript). Alongside software like the Liana wallet, it is meant to provide users with tools to fine-tune their wallet setup, allowing for the combination of different keys and time locks for use cases such as inheritance planning.

- Added support for regtest to the BitBox02 firmware.
What's new (BitBox app v4.45.0)
- Bundle BitBox02 firmware version v9.21.0.
- Added support for sending to silent payment (BIP-352) addresses.
- Prevent macOS from going to sleep on long running interactions with the BitBox.
