Bitcoin Keeper v1.3.0: Miniscript Support, Inheritance Keys & Remote Sharing
Bitcoin Keeper is an open source, mobile multisig bitcoin wallet with inheritance features.
"Big Update Alert! Miniscript comes to Bitcoin Keeper! We’re excited to announce a major update for Bitcoin Keeper, at reduced subscription costs," announced the project.
- This version introduces the Inheritance Key Vault, including securing inheritance keys with Miniscript, the ability to convert any key into an inheritance key, sharing and signing keys remotely with any device, additional subscription tier options with better pricing, and accompanying UI/UX improvements
- Keeper's Inheritance Key vault enhances the standard multisig setup with an additional "Inheritance Key" that activates after a user-defined period of inactivity. This on-chain "dead man switch" facilitates easier recovery and inheritance of funds without relinquishing control or depending on third parties.
"For example, the user can create a 2 of 3 multisig vault, and add a family member as a fourth Inheritance Key, setting the activation time for that key to 1 year from today. For the first year, the vault will be a normal 2 of 3 multisig, then after a year, the vault becomes a 2 of 4 multisig, with the Inheritance Key acting as another valid signer," explained Ben Kaufman, Lead Developer of the project.
- Users can extend the activation time at any point during the year through a process called “re-vaulting.” This allows them to postpone the Inheritance Key's activation, serving as regular confirmation that the owner is well and that the Inheritance Key isn't needed yet.
- The option is available for Keeper's Diamond Hands tier subscribers. Notably, the subscription currently comes at 50% discount.
"At launch, hardware devices integration is still limited, and we expect to complete the integration work with all Miniscript supporting signers in the next few weeks. For now, we offer support for mobile keys, external seed words, and TAPSIGNER in our Miniscript vaults," added the developer.
- Keeper Desktop v0.1.4, a companion desktop app for secure use of hardware wallets with the Bitcoin Keeper mobile app, has been released, too. It allows for retrieving specific BIP44 accounts from a device, as well as adding Taproot keys when obtaining device xPubs.
