Metamask Is Working to Add Native Bitcoin Support - Sources
MetaMask, one of the most popular 'crypto' wallets, is reportedly working on adding native Bitcoin support, sources familiar with the matter told CoinDesk.
- One source indicated that access could be available within the next month. Another source mentioned that while the functionality is not yet finalized, initial features could be limited and then expanded over time.
"We're excited about MetaMask's commitment to embracing the multi-chain world of web3 and continually exploring new integrated features to enhance the usability and security of the leading self-custodial wallet. While we can't confirm any timeline for specific developments at this time, we're always working on innovations to serve our users better. Stay tuned for further updates when we're ready to share more," MetaMask spokesperson said.
- Currently, MetaMask does not support Bitcoin. It uses Wrapped Bitcoin (WBTC) to bridge bitcoin tokens to Ethereum's ecosystem. The wallet is said to be used by over 30 million users on monthly basis.
