Bitmain Antminer Units Halted at U.S. Customs for Months - Report
The Customs and Border Protection Agency (CBP) holds Antminer ASIC imports at US ports, reports Blockspace Media.
- Seven U.S. Bitcoin miners informed Blockspace anonymously that the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) requested the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to hold Bitmain ASIC shipments at U.S. ports.
- CBP has reportedly delayed some of these shipments nationwide for nearly two months, including ports in San Francisco and Detroit.
- Bitmain’s latest Antminer S21 and T21 ASIC imports are being held. Sources said FCC and CBP aren’t targeting other makers like MicroBT or Canaan.
According to the report, the CBP revealed that the FCC requested the freeze. The agency could not provide affected parties with a reason for the action or a timeline for how long the shipments would be held.
- One source said its shipment holds are now nearing months, while adding that CBP holds over 30 days without clear Importer of Record (IOR) requests are rare and exceed standard practices.
- Another source told Blockspace that CBP is holding about 200 units of miners. CBP and FCC ignored the company’s information requests and are charging daily fees over $200,000. The company has hired a law firm to obtain information from the FCC.
- The FCC’s media representative told Blockspace they have no knowledge of orders halting Bitmain hardware.
