Breez Raises $5M to Bring Bitcoin Payments to Every App
Bitcoin payments startup Breez has announced raising a $5 million funding round from Entrée Capital, ego death capital, Plan ₿ Fund, and Timechain.
- "We’re happy to share that we've raised $5M to bring bitcoin payments to every app," announced the company.
- The firm said that in the 18 months since its launch, over 40 apps have implemented Breez SDK in production or beta, providing approximately 1.5 million users with access to self-custodial, peer-to-peer bitcoin payments.
- Breez SDK partners range from well-known names in the bitcoin and crypto space to emerging companies, including Relai, Cake Wallet, Klever, Yopaki, and Elysium Lab. In 2024, these apps collectively processed over $4.5 million in gross transaction volume.
- The company is also preparing to launch Misty Breez, a reference app demonstrating the user-friendly Lightning UX via their nodeless implementation and SDK.
"Developers can look forward to Breez supporting new Lightning standards, including BOLT 12, to bring bitcoin payments directly to browsers through WebAssembly and improving the multi-device, multi-app support of the SDK with a real-time synchronization service," was stated in the blog post.
- Additionally, the company is exploring new technologies to enhance the SDK and establish new standards for peer-to-peer payments
"Breez is breaking down barriers and providing the tools needed to build a world powered by permissionless peer-to-peer payments. Their work has been essential to manifest bitcoin’s importance as a medium of exchange, and we’re excited to continue to support them on this journey," said Jeff Booth, general partner at ego death capital.
