BTCPay Server v2.0: Backend Updates, Full Interface Translation, New Onboarding Flow & More
"We are thrilled to announce the release of BTCPay Server 2.0, our most significant update since the project began in 2017," announced the project.
- This version introduces full interface localization, sidebar-only navigation, a new onboarding flow for new users and Point of Sale merchants, as well as e-commerce integrations with Wix, Odoo, and BigCommerce. It also includes numerous fixes, improvements, and crucial backend updates that lay a solid foundation for future BTCPay Server developments.
"BTCPay Server 2.0 realigns the internal architecture with the lessons we’ve learned since 2017, positioning us to better support both plugin developers and ourselves as we implement new features. While it may not seem immediately obvious, we expect users to see the full potential of 2.0 in the upcoming months, as the ecosystem continues to thrive and build on top of it," stated the team behind the project.
NOTE: Updating to BTCPay Server 2.0 is a one-way process with no option for rolling back. It contains a lot of new features, but also breaking changes. Follow the BTCPay Server's blog post for instructions and post-update checklist.
- "For most, the transition to 2.0 will be seamless, but if you rely on custom integrations or plugins, you will need to update them to ensure compatibility with our 2.0 API," added the developers.

What's new
- Full interface localization. This update enables easy translation of the entire BTCPay Server back office by consolidating all translation strings into a single text box. It simplifies the process of using AI tools for translation, allowing for quick and efficient localization of BTCPay Server into any language.
- New sidebar-only navigation. Moves all navigation items into a unified sidebar for a clear and consistent experience.
- New onboarding flow for new users and Point Of Sale:
- This version brings improved the onboarding experience and added personalization features to user profiles, including the ability to upload a profile photo and set a nickname. These features will be utilized in the upcoming BTCPay App.
- Point of sale QR onboarding. Onboarding existing users to the POS app is now easier than ever; simply scan a QR code from the point of sale.
- Checkout v2 default (removal of the legacy checkout). "The 2.0 checkout has been battle-tested for a while now, and we’re fully confident it brings not only more functionality through features like NFC but also much better and tailored UX through our new branding options."
- Backend branding. v2.0 allows users to brand their BTCPay backend with selected colors and logos for a personalized experience.
- New e-commerce integrations:
- Wix is a leading website-building platform with over 200 million sites. Follow the project's Wix setup guide to install it to your Wix store.
- Odoo: A new plugin for Odoo versions 16 and 17 let's users easily connect BTCPay with their Odoo store, enabling Bitcoin payments with minimal setup.
- BigCommerce: "We’re bringing Bitcoin payments to BigCommerce users with our latest integration."
