Damus About To Be Removed From Apple's App Store As Mutilated v1.5 Gets Rejected

Damus v1.5 got rejected and is facing removal from the app store even though the app developers removed note zaps adhering to Apple's content-tipping policies.

Damus About To Be Removed From Apple's App Store As Mutilated v1.5 Gets Rejected
  • "Looks like we are getting removed from the appstore even after updating our app to make it clear that no digital content is getting unlocked when users are tipped. Users are only ever tipped after posts are made, the idea that content is being sold is nonsense. We will be filing an appeal as this guideline is clearly being abused and misapplied," Damus wrote on Twitter.
  • According to William Casarin, this time the rejection was triggered by Damus's Nostr Wallet Connect (NWC) integration. NWC allows Nostr clients to seamlessly import their existing Lightning wallets into Nostr apps.
  • Damus v1.5 incorporates the following changes:

    - "Fix freezes related to video player."
    - "Remove note zaps due to AppStore content-tipping policies."
    - "Fix reconnect issues on iOS17 and perhaps iOS16 (please let me know if it does!"
  • The current version of the Damus app is set to be removed from the app store on June 27.

an interesting aspect of the damus app store rejections is that apple is blocking them because of bitcoin integration - they want their cut of the revenue - in the future I expect apple to block most nostr apps because of freedom of speech - they will cite some criminals that use the protocol to do illegal things - the only productive path forward is to expect more nostr restrictions by apple and route around them
