Foundry Launches Initiative to Support Open-Source Bitcoin Developers
Bitcoin miners on the KYC mining pool Foundry USA can now donate funds towards open-source Bitcoin developers through non-profits like Brink and OpenSats. Foundry and Core Scientific have already donated 1.4 BTC to kickstart the program.
- "Announcing a new initiative to support the open-source Bitcoin community: Foundry Donate. Connecting miners on Foundry USA Pool with nonprofits that give back to Bitcoin core developers, Foundry Donate strengthens the backbone of the network and empowers the sustainability of a decentralized future," announced Foundry on X.
- The initiative provides an automated on-chain system that allows miners connected to the KYC Foundry USA Pool to choose the amount and frequency of their donations to entities that are approved by the IRS as nonprofit organizations and vetted by Foundry.
- 100% of designated donations go directly to the chosen nonprofits and are verifiable on Bitcoin's blockchain, Foundry said.
"Our mission at Foundry is to empower decentralized infrastructure. Creating a user-friendly feature that enables pool members to support the network's backbone aligns perfectly with this mission. We are committed to the success of Bitcoin and continually seek ways to strengthen its ecosystem," said Mike Colyer, CEO of Foundry.
- Foundry has partnered with two nonprofits supporting Bitcoin development: Brink and OpenSats. To kickstart the initiative, Foundry is donating 0.2 BTC from its mining operations to each organization. Additionally, Core Scientific, a major publicly traded mining company, has already contributed 1 BTC through Foundry Donate.
"It is great to see the bitcoin mining community wanting to support the foundational software development and maintenance work being done on Bitcoin. Brink thanks Foundry for their contribution to our mission and for leading the way on this initiative with their Foundry Donate program so that others can as well," said Mike Schmidt, Co-founder and Executive Director of Brink.
