What's happening

The U.S. House voted 228-184 on Thursday in an unsuccessful attempt to override President Joe Biden’s veto of a legislative measure to overturn SEC Staff Accounting Bulletin No. 121. The vote fell short of the two-thirds majority needed to overturn the veto, so the bulletin remains in effect.
- However, the SEC is reportedly working with a "special interest group representing large custody banks" to allow some exceptions to the SAB 121 accounting guidance.

"I understand that the SEC may be close to reaching an agreement on these modifications, which would ensure that well regulated entities like custody banks can offer crypto custody services consistent with SAB 121," said Maxine Waters, House Financial Services Committee Ranking Democrat.
