Liana Wallet v10.0: Wallet Backups & Dependencies Update

Liana is a Bitcoin wallet that uses miniscript output descriptors, with extensive use of relative timelocks (OP_CSV). It features a timelocked recovery path for coins and can be used for inheritance, decaying and expanding multisigs, and safer backups. Available on Windows, Mac and Linux.

Liana Wallet v10.0: Wallet Backups & Dependencies Update
  • Liana v10 introduces backup functionality for the entire wallet, including descriptors, aliases, and labels, allowing for easy wallet backup, migration, and synchronization with new devices.
  • Additionally, it updates the Rust and iced dependencies for the GUI and lianad.
  • A new feature has been added to Liana's Safety Net for retail partners, allowing them to offer a paid service where they keep a recovery key for Liana users in case of lost access to funds.
"As always, we welcome your feedback and contributions: feel free to join the discussion about Liana in our Discord and Telegram groups, while also keeping an eye on our Github repository for updates. Stay tuned for future updates as we continue to build and improve."

What's new

  • Wallet import/export:
    • A new system lets users back up wallet configurations, including descriptors, by downloading a file during wallet creation. Users can update their backup for changes like labels and aliases by downloading it from Wallet settings.
    • This backup file can restore the wallet or keep it synced across devices. It does not include hot keys (computer-generated mnemonics).
    • A new "Export/Import" section in the settings consolidates all export and import options, including backup and restore wallet functions, along with new features like "Export Labels" and "Export Descriptor." The export of labels follows the BIP329 standard in both the wallet backup and the "Export Labels" function.
  • Safety Net functionality for professional key agents. During installation, you can fetch the xpub of a key provider from a Wizardsardine service by entering a token. This xpub serves as a "Safety Net," a paid service where a third party retains a recovery key for you if you lose access to your funds.
  • The default value of "standard" recovery paths is now set to ~1 year. This allows the safety net to be quickly configured with the maximum time lock without conflicting with other recovery paths.
  • The output descriptor for the same key setup may differ from one generated by a v9 Liana due to changes in the rust-miniscript compiler. However, both descriptors are supported by Liana versions v9 and v10.
  • Right-clicking on a text input displays a "Paste" button, enabling users to paste content from the clipboard.
  • The "Replace by Fee" action can now be performed on transactions even if there is no related PSBT in the database.
  • Lianad: The issue where the fee rate using rounded-up vbytes was sometimes lower than the target value has been fixed by updating the bdk_coin_select dependency.
  • Fixed some typos and wording.
  • The installer GUI now allows deletion of any primary key but prevents the deletion of all recovery paths.
  • Fixed a bug that could cause address reuse (both deposit and change) in wallets with multiple instances, like multisig with several participants.
"This situation could arise if a user received a coin at an address revealed by another instance and this address had a higher derivation index than any address already revealed by this user. Such an address would still have been shown to the user as a new deposit address or would have been used as a change address when creating a new spend, depending on the type of address in question. This did not affect Liana-Connect users."
  • Upgraded dependencies: the rust-bitcoin dependency was upgraded to v0.32 for both lianad and liana-gui, and the iced dependency to v13.1 for liana-gui, contributing to a faster and more secure experience.

This version does not introduce any breaking changes in the database schema.
