OpenSats Announces 10th Wave of Bitcoin Grants & Support for Developer Organizations
  • Projects included in the tenth wave of Bitcoin grants include:
    • Bitcoin Safe. It is an open-source bitcoin wallet focused on secure, intuitive self-custody. By integrating BDK, nostr, and Compact Block Filters (BIP 158), it enhances privacy and reliability by minimizing dependence on centralized servers, and simplifies single and multi-signature storage, drawing inspiration from Electrum, Sparrow, and mempool.space.
    • Stable Channels provides bitcoin-backed dollar balances on the Lightning Network for decentralized transactions without centralized stablecoins. It pairs USD-seeking users with those wanting leveraged bitcoin positions, using price-adjusted Lightning settlements for synthetic dollar balances. Working with Cashu, it also allows USD and EUR token minting backed by bitcoin.
    • Waye supports the well-being of open-source developers to reduce burnout and ennhance work sustainability. Acknowledging the challenges faced by grant-funded, unaffiliated developers, Waye has launched pilot programs featuring academic research, group coaching, and the creation of scalable, shared frameworks.
  • OpenSats also renewed three grants to past grantees:
    • Floresta. It is a modular Bitcoin node written in Rust, using Utreexo and PoW Fraud Proofs to enhance decentralization and trustlessness. With fast synchronization, it aims to make Bitcoin nodes more globally accessible.
    • Krux is open-source firmware allowing users to build Bitcoin signing devices from off-the-shelf parts. It runs on Kendryte K210 devices like Maix Amigo or M5StickV, transforming them into air-gapped devices for signing single and multisignature wallet transactions.
    • Krux Installer is the desktop application that allows anyone to install the Krux firmware in a safe, easy, and transparent way.
  • Additionally, OpenSats announced support for multiple non-profit organizations seeking to advance open-source Bitcoin development.
"One of our goals for this epoch is to encourage the creation of OpenSats-like organizations, whether to focus on specific domains, enable tax-deductible donations in new jurisdictions, or provide regional and local support. As a first step towards that goal we are delighted to announce support for multiple organizations that embody this vision," was stated in a blog post.
  • These include:
    • 2140 is a European non-profit focused on Bitcoin's security and resilience. Based in Amsterdam, it offers full-time roles for experienced contributors and fellowship programs for newcomers.
    • OpenCash is a Swiss non-profit focused on researching and developing open-source electronic cash systems to support censorship-resistant financial services on Bitcoin.
    • Bitshala - a grassroots initiative aimed at educating and training the next generation of open-source Bitcoin and Lightning developers in India.
    • Summer of Bitcoin - a global internship program that introduces university students to open-source Bitcoin development and design.
    • Bitcoin Dev Launchpad. It is a 40-week Vinteum program that trains South American developers in Bitcoin open-source development through a structured three-phase approach.
    • The Foundation Formation Kit (FFK) is an Open Source Justice Foundation (OSJF) project that assists open-source communities in establishing tax-exempt foundations.

Open Sats is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. All gifts and donations are tax-deductible to the full extent of the law. Consider donating if you want to support open-source projects and developers in the Bitcoin ecosystem.
