Satoshi Nakamoto Institute, Mi Primer Bitcoin & Summer of Bitcoin Granted Support from Newly Launched OpenSats Education Initiative
  • "As part of our commitment to fostering knowledge and understanding of Bitcoin, starting today we are accepting grant applications specifically focused on Bitcoin educational projects," announced OpenSats.
"A core principle of OpenSats is that all supported projects must be open-source and freely accessible. Consequently, all educational materials funded through our grants must be published under a free and open license, making them available to everyone."
  • Educators, developers, and advocates are welcome to apply for grants under the OpenSats Education Initiative. For more information and to apply, see opensats.org/apply.

The first recipients of education grants are:

  • Satoshi Nakamoto Institute. The Satoshi Nakamoto Institute (SNI) aims to advance and preserve knowledge about Bitcoin’s history, economics, and technology. The Institute hosts an archive of Satoshi’s public writings and a comprehensive library of works that provide a full historical, economic, and political context for understanding Bitcoin.
    • In recent news, The Satoshi Nakamoto Institute has achieved tax exemption as a charitable organization from the IRS under Section 501(c)(3). The organization also launched the SNI Translation Community, an initiative aimed at making SNI content more accessible to people globally.
  • Mi Primer Bitcoin. Mi Primer Bitcoin (My First Bitcoin) promotes community-led Bitcoin education. The project has created the first-ever Bitcoin Diploma, equipping individuals, businesses, and communities with essential financial literacy and Bitcoin knowledge.
    • Mi Primer Bitcoin launched an open node network for international Bitcoin educators in March 2023. Each node uses open-source materials and agrees to six core pillars: that the education must be independent, impartial, community-led, quality, Bitcoin-only, and teach empowerment.
  • Summer of Bitcoin. Summer of Bitcoin is a global, online summer internship program that introduces university students to Bitcoin open-source development and design. Students contribute code or design to Bitcoin open-source projects, earn sats as a stipend, and make productive use of their summer break.
