Phoenix Wallet v2.5.0: APK Size Reduction, Improved QR Scanning, Tor Changes
Phoenix is a mobile self-custodial Bitcoin wallet using Lightning to send and receive payments. Available on Android and iOS.

- Phoenix Wallet v2.5.0 has been released with major improvements in QR code scanning on Android, a 78% reduction in APK size, and the display of pending on-chain funds on the home screen in the iOS app.
- This version also removes embedded Tor library from the app, meaning that users now have to install a third-party Tor proxy VPN app such as Orbot to use Phoenix via the Tor Network. It makes the Tor connection more stable, and background payments via Tor should work more reliably.

What's new
- Access to Tor via Tor Proxy VPN app such as Orbot. Previously, Phoenix embedded a Tor library for network access, which was convenient but led to performance issues, particularly with background payments due to on-the-fly connection establishment. Now, with a Tor connection managed as a persistent VPN by a dedicated app, the connection is more stable, significantly improving the performance of background payments.
- Android: QR scanner performance improvements. The scanner should now read QR codes more quickly and be compatible with a wider range of devices. Previously, some devices were unable to scan QR codes at all, but this issue should be resolved.
- Android: 78% APK size reduction. The removal of the old legacy app, along with other optimizations, has reduced the APK size significantly from 72.5 MB to 16.5 MB.
- iOS: Display the final wallet balance in the home screen. Pending on-chain funds are now displayed in an updated window on the Home screen, which also shows the funds available in the final wallet.
