  • In a Truth Social post late Friday, Trump announced the launch of his meme coin, $TRUMP, adding that it celebrates "WINNING" the presidential election and his upcoming inauguration.
  • The coin is already set to be listed on all major cryptocurrency exchanges, including Coinbase, Binance, and others.
  • The token's website includes a disclaimer stating that $TRUMP is "not intended to be, or the subject of," an investment opportunity or any type of security, and is "not political and has nothing to do with" Trump's campaign, office, or government agency.
  • The project developers have launched the coin on Solana blockchain and have initially limited $TRUMP's supply to 200 million coins, planning to expand it to 1 billion over three years.
  • Regardless of how it all goes, the launch of the TRUMP memecoin by the President of the United States potentially marks a significant shift in the previously complicated relationship between US regulators and the Bitcoin space, as well as other digital assets.
"One thing that my cryptolawyer colleagues seem to agree on is that the $TRUMP project is one of the most significant things to happen to the industry, period. The President of the United States just YOLOd a shitcoin (a term of art in our industry) on the eve of his inauguration. This was hitherto completely unthinkable," wrote the industry lawyer Preston Byrne in a blog post.
  • President Trump is set to be inaugurated later today and has previously said he intends to use executive powers to reduce regulatory burdens for the industry in the United States, establish a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve, commute the sentence of Silk Road's creator Ross Ulbricht, and designate cryptocurrency as a national priority.
