RoninDojo v2.2.0: Improved Feature Set for Backups

"This release, we've put our effort into improving the feature set for backups, as a fresh installation plus restoring a backup is the most surefire way to get back on track, be it on the same device or another, while continuing right where the previous one had stopped," announced the project.

• This update streamlines data backups during 1TB drive upgrades, ensuring a smoother experience in system management and uptime maintenance.

What's new

• Backup includes the indexer data and Dojo configuration. Dojo now backs up indexer data to the backup device for Addrindexrs, Electrs, or Fulcrum, storing it like the Initial Blockchain Download (IBD) during backup. All the Tor onion data and API keys can be backed up as well.
  • Backing up the Tor data and API keys stores sensitive system information on your device, but not wallet data or passwords. RoninUI's Tor onion will not be backed up as it requires further architectural changes.
• Install with backup drive. During installation, if a backup drive is detected, RoninDojo automatically restores your IBD, indexer data, and configuration, selecting the correct indexer to reduce setup time.
• Easier storage upgrade. The process for users looking to upgrade their storage has been streamlined, ensuring the user data remains intact without the risk of corruption or data loss.
• Automated backups. Backup operations can be set up via cron jobs, with future UI and CLI management options providing flexibility.
• Backup security considerations. Users can back up only bitcoind and indexer data to avoid managing two sensitive devices, ensuring a secure setup.
• Salvage fix. The salvage process now correctly moves data, addressing previous data integrity issues.
• Full receive scenario in CLI. If the backup drive wasn't attached during the initial flash, use "full receive" in the CLI to restore the setup without reflashing.
• Post-Recovery Actions. After salvage or backup, reconnect your Dojo wallet by saving to an encrypted backup and restoring, which facilitates xpub rescanning.
  • Hardware tip: If enclosures do not connect when off, wait 10 seconds after booting before connecting the backup drive to avoid USB issues.
• Samourai Dojo has been updated to v1.26.1 with the latest versions of Tor, Fulcrum, Electrs, Addrindexrs and updated codebase.

NOTE: "Do not attempt to install from the same backup data on multiple devices. The Tor onion URL would conflict, potentially causing issues across the decentralized network and making your Dojo inaccessible. You can setup a second device as a fallback, that you turn on if your main device has a failure, but do not have these devices active at the same time."
