Satimoto App to Shut Down on September 1st
Satimoto, a privacy-friendly electric vehicle charging app that utilizes Bitcoin over the Lightning Network to stream micro-payments, has announced it will disable services starting September 1, 2024.
- "It's with a very heavy heart I'm announcing that Satimoto will be shutting down from Sept 1st 2024. I'd like to thank every single person who has tested, used, given feedback over the past 4 years, to all the people I've met along the way and the new friends I've made," announced the project.
"The Satimoto application will continue to be available for the foreseeable future but all charging services will be disabled from Sept 1st 2024. ALL code for the Satimoto client/server stack is FOSS and available here."
Satimoto developer named two primary reasons for shuttering the service:
- High costs of running an EV service provider (red tape/service cost) and low margins on EV charging. "You need a high throughput to be sustainable," explained the developer.
- Inability to focus on the service due to work/life commitments.
- The service is supported in at least 60,000 EV charging stations across Europe.
- "If you have further questions, concerns or interested in continuing to run Satimoto, please contact me via DM or at hello@satimoto.com," added the developer.
